EV and battery manufacturing

Automated material flow for electrode, cell, module and pack production.

EV and battery plants run around the clock and move heavy, valuable materials between tightly linked processes: electrode rolls, cell trays, modules and packs, plus inbound raw materials and outbound finished goods. Battery factory automation with AMRs connects these steps. Roller-top AMRs deliver rolls straight onto conveyors, lifting AMRs move racks and carts between processes, and autonomous forklifts handle pallets at both ends of the plant, all under one dispatch system.

Common challenges

  • Heavy electrode rolls must be moved and loaded without damage or manual lifting
  • Continuous 24-hour production leaves no room for late deliveries between processes
  • New lines ramp up quickly and layouts change as capacity is added
  • Traceability requires every move of material to be recorded
  • Dry rooms and controlled areas limit how many people should enter

Flows we automate

  1. 01

    Electrode roll handling

Roller-top AMRs carry rolls from storage to coating, pressing and slitting equipment and dock with conveyors for automatic transfer.

  2. 02

    Cell and module WIP transfer

Lifting AMRs move racks and carts of trays between formation, testing and module assembly as the MES calls for them.

  3. 03

    Inbound and finished-goods pallets

Autonomous forklifts move raw material pallets to the lines and finished packs or modules to storage and shipping.

How AMRs fit a battery plant

All robots navigate by laser SLAM on existing walls, columns and equipment, so new halls and expansions do not need floor markings. The dispatch system takes tasks from MES, WMS or PLC signals, manages traffic and charging, and integrates conveyors, lifts and automatic doors between areas.

During the survey we check floors, Wi-Fi, controlled-area rules and traffic, and simulate the flow so the robot count matches your takt. For hands-on tasks that are hard to automate, embodied AI robots can be trialed in a focused pilot.

  • Tasks from MES, WMS, ERP, PLC signals or call buttons
  • Conveyor docking, lifts and automatic doors between production areas
  • Every completed move reported back for traceability
  • Robots slow down and stop for people; speed limits per zone

Typical results

In a typical roll-handling project, roller-top AMRs docked with conveyors at ±10 mm, removed manual loading entirely and went live in 10 weeks. These are values from comparable projects, not guarantees. Your assessment gives the figures for your plant.

Frequently asked questions

Can AMRs load electrode rolls onto conveyors automatically?

Yes. Roller-top AMRs dock with conveyors and transfer rolls without manual loading; comparable projects reached ±10 mm docking.

Which robots does a battery plant typically use?

Roller-top and lifting AMRs inside production, and autonomous forklifts for inbound materials and finished goods, all on one dispatch system.

Can the system grow as we add lines?

Yes. New routes and stations are added on the digital map and robots are added to the same fleet, without changes to the floor.

Are humanoid robots ready for battery production?

Not as a replacement for established automation. We offer embodied AI for pilots on defined hands-on tasks, alongside proven AMRs.
